Cookie policy
Effective date: September 8, 2026
Our Privacy Policy explains our principles when it comes to the collection, processing, and storage of your information. This Cookie Policy specifically explains how we and our partners use cookies and similar technologies on Slam Academy's websites and in our emails, and the options you have to control them.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small pieces of data, stored in text files, that are placed on your computer or other device when a website is loaded in a browser. They are widely used to "remember" you and your preferences, either for a single visit (a "session cookie") or across repeat visits (a "persistent cookie"). They perform essential functions such as keeping you signed in, and they also power analytics and advertising.
Cookies may be set by the site you are visiting ("first-party cookies") or by third parties that provide content, analytics, or advertising services on the site ("third-party cookies").
Websites and HTML emails may also contain other tracking technologies:
- Pixels (also called "web beacons" or "tags") are small, usually invisible images or snippets of code that load when a page or email is opened. They send information back to the party that placed them, for purposes similar to cookies.
- Local storage is a browser feature that stores data on your device in a way similar to cookies.
- Scripts from third parties, such as an analytics or session-replay tool, run in your browser to record how you interact with a page.
When we say "cookies" in this policy, we mean all of these technologies unless we say otherwise.
How we use cookies
We use cookies for a number of different purposes. Some are necessary for technical reasons — for example, to keep you signed in to your account or to remember your cookie choices. Others help us understand how visitors use our websites, remember your preferences, connect you with support, play embedded audio and video, and show you advertising for Slam Academy on other websites and platforms.
Some cookies are set only if you have an account and are signed in. Others may be set whenever you visit our websites, subject to your consent as described below.
Where we place cookies
We set cookies, or allow our partners to set them:
- On our websites, including slamacademy.com and its subdomains, and on the pages where our courses and live classes are delivered; and
- In the marketing emails we send you.
This policy does not cover cookies set by third-party platforms we link to but do not operate, such as our Discord community or the social networks you can use to sign in. Those platforms have their own cookie and privacy policies.
Categories of cookies we use
The table below explains the categories of cookies used on our websites and why we use them. The specific cookies in each category, who sets them, and how long they last are listed in the Cookie Settings panel available from the link in the footer of our websites. That list is kept current as our tools change.
| Category | Why we use these cookies | Consent required? |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Essential for our websites to perform basic functions. These include cookies that allow you to register, sign in, and stay signed in; protect against fraud and abuse; load the hosted checkout provided by our payment processor; balance traffic across our servers; and remember whether you have accepted or rejected other cookies. | No — these are set automatically. |
| Functional and preferences | Remember choices you make, such as your language, your video player settings, or where you left off in a lesson, so that you do not have to make them again. | Yes. |
| Analytics and performance | Collect information about how visitors use our websites — which pages are visited, how people move between pages, how far they get through a course, and which links they click. We also use session replay and heatmap tools, which record mouse movements, clicks, scrolling, and page interactions so we can understand where visitors have trouble and improve our pages. These tools are not used to collect payment card details, which are entered on our payment processor's hosted checkout, and we configure them to exclude password fields and other sensitive inputs. | Yes. |
| Live chat and support | Power the chat widget that lets you contact our team from our websites, remember your conversation so it can continue across pages, and let us see which page you were on when you asked for help. | Yes. |
| Embedded media | Set by third parties such as YouTube, SoundCloud, and Spotify when a video, track, or playlist embedded on our pages is loaded. These providers may use the information they collect for their own purposes, including advertising, in accordance with their own policies. | Yes. |
| Advertising and marketing | Set by us and our advertising partners to show you ads for Slam Academy on other websites and platforms, to measure whether those ads led you to visit our site or enroll, to limit how often you see the same ad, and to build audiences of people with interests similar to our students. These cookies collect information about your activity over time and across different websites. Disclosing information to our advertising partners in this way may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, or "targeted advertising," under some US state privacy laws. | Yes. |
Social sign-in
If you create an account or sign in using a third-party service such as Google, Apple, Facebook, LinkedIn, or X, that service will set its own cookies as part of the sign-in process. Those cookies are governed by that service's policies, not this one. You can avoid them by creating an account with an email address and password instead.
Tracking in our emails
Our marketing emails contain a small pixel and tracked links that tell us whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. We use this to measure the effectiveness of our campaigns and to send you fewer, more relevant messages. You can prevent open tracking by setting your email client not to load images automatically. You can stop receiving marketing emails entirely by using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. Emails about your account, purchases, and classes may still include tracked links so that we can confirm they were delivered.
Consent and your choices
Cookie banner. When you first visit our websites, you will see a cookie banner that lets you accept or reject cookies in each of the categories above. We do not set, or allow our partners to set, any cookies other than strictly necessary ones until you have made a choice. If you reject a category, the cookies in that category are not set and the associated tools — including session replay, live chat, embedded media players, and advertising pixels — do not run. Some features, such as embedded videos and the chat widget, will not be available until you enable the corresponding category.
Changing your mind. You can review or change your choices at any time by clicking Cookie Settings in the footer of our websites. Withdrawing consent does not affect any processing that happened before you withdrew it. We will show you the banner again periodically, or when we add new cookies or partners, so that your choices stay current.
Opting out of the sale or sharing of your information for targeted advertising. Rejecting the Advertising and marketing category in the cookie banner has this effect. You can also use the Your Privacy Choices / Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link in the footer of our websites. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as a valid opt-out for the browser or device that sends it. Because these choices are stored in cookies, you will need to repeat them if you clear your cookies or use a different browser or device.
Children. We do not knowingly use cookies to sell, share for cross-context behavioral advertising, or target advertising to anyone we know to be under 16.
Controlling cookies through your browser and device
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, or warn you before a cookie is set, through their settings. If you disable all cookies, some features of our websites — including signing in — will not work. To learn more about managing cookies, visit aboutcookies.org.
For more choices about interest-based advertising, visit:
- optout.aboutads.info (Digital Advertising Alliance, US)
- optout.networkadvertising.org (Network Advertising Initiative, US)
- youronlinechoices.eu (EEA)
- youradchoices.ca (Canada)
Some partners also offer their own controls. For example, Google's ad and analytics settings are available at adssettings.google.com and through the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. On mobile devices, your operating system's privacy settings let you limit ad tracking or reset your advertising identifier.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use or in the law. When we do, we will update the effective date above and the change log below, and we will show you the cookie banner again if the change requires a new choice from you.
Change Log
