Slam Academy’s Recording Arts Program is unlike any other recording program. We don’t focus on the Hollywood studio, the million-dollar consoles, or the “industry standard” version of Pro Tools. Instead, we focus on capturing great recordings and getting the best results in our home studio, with great people and real-world equipment.

If you weren't already sold on the Recording Arts program, this video will do it 🙂

Join us for this 6-week journey through the science and art of live session recording. Once you’re enrolled, check out a room, grab some gear from our collection, and get to work on your projects.

If you have an instrument, bring it in to help with live recordings in class. Don’t play an instrument, no problem, we’re teaching you how to record live instruments, not play them. As part of your enrollment, you have access to all of our equipment, acoustic and electronic instruments, and our various recording and production studios.

Stefon Taylor (Bionik) teaches Slam Academy’s Recording Arts Program, alongside Joe Woodling and guest instructor Charlie Erickson. “Bionik” is at one in both acoustic and electronic realms. He sings, plays guitar, bass, drums, and percussion, writing and recording all of his own sample-free music. As a producer of electronic soundscapes, his recent live performances have taken him to Minneapolis’ First Avenue, Los Angeles’ Low End Theory, and Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory.

Slam Academy has changed my life and Bionik is a big part of that!

I took Stefon Taylor’s (Bionik) Producer Program with Chuck Love in the fall of 2018 and it changed the trajectory of how I’m approaching music in my life. I feel confident that I can create the work I want after experiencing this class. The topics we discussed and deep dive work we did around the work of a Producer was invaluable and I came out of it with concrete actions that I’m taking forward.

I also had the good fortune of taking Hip Hop Producer class with Bionik in 2018. His deep experience and knowledge in hip hop (amongst many other genres and industry knowledge) has helped me shape the vision of where I want to take my talent in this space.

The Twin Cities music scene is alive and well due to many fine artists and teachers from both past and present. I have been fortunate to encounter one of these fine artists and instructors who has influenced and taught me a great deal about the industry, especially recording.
Slam Academy instructor Bionik taught me more in this recording class then I learned while receiving my music minor in college.
Bionik along with Chuck Love have a wealth of experience recording both their own albums as well as many other nationally known artists. I gained considerable knowledge on recording numerous live instruments and this experience has made my own electronic beats come to life.
I would recommend this class to anyone who wishes to expand their recording and producing skills and abilities. Simply put, the Twin Cities is fortunate to have Bionik and Chuck Love’s talent and teaching skills. You will not be disappointed.
