Advisory Board Member Releases New Solo Album

,

Gregory Taylor, longtime electronic musician and Madison radio host, releases new solo album, “Randstad”

As a live improviser, Gregory Taylor has been recording electronic works since the late 1970s, but is also well known for his radio show, RTQE, on Madison’s WORT-FM since 1986. Currently, Taylor works for Cycling ’74, developer of the widely used music software program Max.  But, his latest album, Randstad, released in June 2018, embraces working alone and his solitary experiences living in the randstad – the Dutch use this term to describe their urban area that encompasses four large cities: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht.

Much of the album was made with field recordings of his travels using a small handheld recorder. He made a rule that the material had to be produced from where he lived and made with what he had with him. This technique proves that the smallest pieces of technology, made with small parts, can end up turning into a big sounding album. Randstad is his 4th album for PoL.
