Music for Video Games: featuring composer Ben Houge

Video game composer Ben Houge will present examples of his work for games such as Tom Clancy’s Endwar, Half-Life, Arcanum, and more. Ben will also discuss how he got into the business, how video game composition works, technical considerations, and current trends.
Ben moved to Shanghai, China, in 2004, to accept a job as a senior audio designer with the French videogame company Ubisoft, a position he held for over four years. Since his arrival, he’s presented his music at the Zendai Museum of Modern Art, the 2pi Festival, the Shanghai eArts Festival, and Noishanghai, alongside local musicians including Torturing Nurse and Wang Changcun. He’s also transplanted the Sound Currents concert series from Seattle to present visiting artists from the US. His work has been profiled in local publications, and he served as a contributing music editor to That’s Shanghai from January 2007 through September 2008.
