The Scholarships

Social Justice Scholarship

Inspired by Al Sharpton’s eulogy at the memorial service for George Floyd, this scholarship is for Black and Indigenous people who want to pursue DJing and music production at Slam Academy. Nearly all genres of modern music are rooted in Black culture and ushered forward by Black innovators. Meanwhile, systemic racism continues to oppress, invalidate, and deeply affect the lives of Black and Indigenous people who still bear the impact of slavery and genocide. We readily acknowledge that this scholarship can in no way fix these deeply rooted social injustices, but we hope this scholarship will help individuals in our community further their creative passions.

Extra Abilities Scholarship

The Extra Abilities Scholarship is designed for those who identify as being on the autism spectrum. Students who receive(d) services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in school, or have a 504 Plan or IEP are especially encouraged to apply.

On August 27, 2018, Kyle J Rice was killed in a motorcycle crash at the age of 30. Kyle was a big fan of electronic music, and was planning on attending Slam Academy in the near future to pursue his love of electronic music. While Kyle will not be able to attend classes, his family and friends wanted to do something in his memory, so they held a fundraiser to raise money for a scholarship to Slam Academy in Kyle’s name, pictured here with two of the three recipients.
